Frequently asked questions about our Swiss explainer video agency.

An explainer video – also called an explainer film or video animation – is a short, usually animated video that makes a complex topic understandable in one to two minutes. It turns jargon into pictures. The starting point is always the same: you know your product, process or service inside out, and your audience does not yet. The video closes that gap with a story that lands in seconds and stays in the mind – even when attention is short.

It is built from a sharp script, a storyboard, custom illustrations, animation, professional voiceover and sound design. Styles range from whiteboard through flat design and isometric 3D vector worlds to screencasts. Explainer videos work wherever understanding matters: on your website, in sales, in training, in internal communication and on social media – most often in marketing, sales, HR and internal communication, for products, processes, strategies and new features. People would rather watch a short video than read a long text, and they remember more when picture, sound and story come together.

When it works, you get that liberating moment: a puzzled frown turns into a delighted "aha!". Videodesign has made explainer videos since 2012 – over 4,500 of them, for companies such as AXA, SBB and the City of Zurich, voiced in German, French and Italian and in English too. From complexity to clarity.

Three styles are chosen most often at Videodesign.

  • Whiteboard: a reduced drawing style, clear messages and highlight colours from your brand – at CHF 7'500 the most affordable entry, and often ideal for step-by-step processes.
  • Flat design: memorable visuals, animated characters and your full brand palette – more imagery and movement, the choice for emotional messages.
  • Isometric: 3D vector illustrations and full use of the space for a big-picture effect – when many parts of a system need to be visible at once.

We also produce 2D and 3D explainer videos, screencasts and e-learning videos, and where the topic calls for it, live-action film instead of animation. A style is never a template with us: in the design step we show you illustration styles, develop the look for your brand and draw every scene through – you see your video before it is animated. Which style fits depends on topic, audience and budget. In your free consultation we recommend one honestly – even if it is the least expensive. Prices for all three styles are on our pricing page.

At Videodesign, a fixed price by style, for 90 seconds in one voiced language: whiteboard CHF 7'500, flat design CHF 9'500, isometric CHF 12'500, excl. VAT. Always included:

  • concept and script,
  • storytelling and storyboard,
  • design and animation in your corporate design,
  • and a dedicated project manager with quick feedback rounds.

No small print, no hourly billing – the price in the quote is the price on the invoice. Extra length costs CHF 950 per 15 seconds; further languages come as subtitles from CHF 480 or a studio voiceover from CHF 2'000. For context: a professional 60-second explainer video typically costs CHF 5'500 to 15'000 in the market. All packages are on our pricing page; your quote arrives within 24 hours.

Four to six weeks, from the kick-off workshop to handover. Your video passes through three phases – concept, design, and animation with sound – with two feedback rounds included in each. Whether it lands nearer four weeks or six depends mostly on your feedback pace: quick sign-offs are faster; if many people need a say internally, plan for six. Our tip: bundle internal feedback into one response per round and agree early who signs off – that saves more time than any shortcut in production.

Style, length and language versions matter too: a whiteboard video in one language is done sooner than an isometric one in three. Before all that, things move quickly – a reply within 12 hours, a fixed-price quote within 24. In the kick-off we set a binding schedule with all milestones, aligned to your launch, campaign or training. Deadline burning?

That is what our Express line is for: AI-assisted and curated, to the same standard of clarity. Tell us the date in the first conversation – we plan backwards and tell you honestly whether it holds.

Any industry with something to explain – which is nearly all of them. Since 2012, Videodesign has made explainer videos for insurers, banks and financial services, government and public administration, education, pharma and healthcare, industry, IT and software, and logistics. Each brings its own job: banks make financial products and digital services understandable, IT companies explain their software to customers and staff, hospitals and pharma companies inform patients, public authorities reach citizens directly by video, manufacturers show their Industry 4.0 strategies, logistics firms their connected processes. Examples from over 4,500 projects: voting explainers for the City of Zurich, the SBB mobile app, insurance topics for AXA and the Swiss Insurance Association SVV, the PostFinance trainee programme, the Rhine ports for the Swiss Museum of Transport.

Explainer videos run most often in marketing, sales, internal communication and HR – for products, processes, strategies and new features. Size does not matter: SME or corporation, hospital or public office. What they share is a topic too complicated for text that a video makes clear in about 90 seconds – regulated environment or technical product alike. The ingredients stay the same: a clear concept, didactic storytelling, clean execution in your corporate design.

AI tools and template software make videos fast – that is their value. What they cannot do is understand your topic. An explainer video works when someone has decided what to leave out, in which order your audience will understand, and which image carries the message. That is concept and teaching work, not rendering. Do the honest sums too: even with a tool, a 90-second video quickly takes four to eight hours of your time, and the result looks like a template. If the video stays internal and the bar is low, that is often fine.

If it represents your brand, it usually is not. So at Videodesign: AI makes videos fast. We make them understood. We use AI ourselves – as a tool, curated by professionals. In our Studio line, every illustration is drawn by hand for your brand. In our Express line we work AI-assisted and curated when speed matters, to the same standard of clarity.

Both come with concept, storytelling and a dedicated project manager in Lucerne. Want to try it yourself first? We compared the best tools honestly, including the cases where a tool is enough. And if the result looks like a kit, you know where we are.

Three steps.

  1. Consultation: you tell us your topic, goal and audience. We recommend style, length and approach. You receive a fixed-price quote within 24 hours.
  2. Kick-off workshop: at your office, at ours or online. We set key messages, audience and timeline. You leave with a plan and all its milestones.
  3. Production: we write the script, design the storyboard, illustrate, animate and record the voiceover. Four to six weeks from kick-off to handover.

In every phase – concept, design, and animation with sound – two feedback rounds are included, and your project manager stays the same person from the first call to final sign-off. Your part stays small: send briefing materials, join the workshop, pick the voice from demos, give feedback. In the design step you see every scene before anything is animated. At the end you get a video that works without us – ready for your website, training, sales or social media. If you want, we help afterwards with distribution and measurement: reach is everything for an explainer video, so we get it onto the right platforms and measure it against the KPIs set in the kick-off. The full process is on our explainer video production page.

Practically any language – unusual ones included, and we have experience with them. Our focus is German, French, Italian and English: one of those four is included in the fixed price as the voiced language; every other language is available on request. Each additional one comes as a subtitled version from CHF 480 or a studio voiceover from CHF 2'000, including re-timing the animation to the new track so emphasis and picture still match. Subtitles suit social media, where people often watch with the sound off.

You choose the voices yourself – from voice artist demos in every language you need, as early as the concept phase. Several language versions earn a volume discount, which pays off for national campaigns, public-sector communication and training in multilingual companies. For Switzerland that means one concept, three versions, and your message lands in Romandy and Ticino just as it does in the German-speaking part. One tip: plan the language versions from the start.

If we know at concept stage that more languages are coming, we write and design so the adaptation is faster and cheaper. Prices are on our pricing page.

As short as possible, as long as necessary – and from over 4,500 videos we know 90 seconds is the sweet spot. Long enough for problem, solution and call to action, short enough for your audience's attention. That attention is not growing: internal or marketing, you compete with ever more content for ever less time. A good explainer video therefore nails the essentials in 60 – 90 seconds – not everything in five minutes.

That is why our fixed-price packages are based on 90 seconds; if your topic needs more room, we extend in 15-second steps at CHF 950 each, with no renegotiation. For social media we cut short snippets from your video on request. For TikTok, LinkedIn or Instagram. No second version of the video needed.

A video that explains one thing clearly beats one that half-explains five. What belongs in your 90 seconds, and what is better as a second video, an infographic or an e-learning, we settle in the kick-off workshop.

A bigger one than most people expect. The voice carries the message and sets the tone of your video – literally. That is why the voiceover is part of every Videodesign package, never an add-on. As early as the concept phase you get voice artist demos in every language you need and pick the voice that fits your brand.

Recording happens in a studio, with professional voice artists in German, French or Italian, and in English too; other languages on request. We then blend voice, sound design and music into one whole and re-time the animation to the track, so emphasis and picture fit together. As a Swiss agency, we guarantee the right tone for your audience. And because social media is often watched on mute, we add subtitles there – as a standalone language version from CHF 480.

Another voiced language can be recorded later, animation re-timed, from CHF 2'000. Details are on our pricing page.

Four things – and none of them is a matter of taste.

  1. Reduction: a good explainer video explains one thing clearly, rather than five things halfway; someone decided what to leave out and in which order the audience will understand.
  2. Story: facts convince, stories move – a good explainer video does both, wrapping the complicated into a narrative with problem, solution and call to action that lands in seconds and stays in the mind.
  3. Imagery: jargon becomes pictures, and the design follows your brand rather than a template – custom illustrations in your corporate identity, not a kit look.
  4. Craft: professional voiceover, sound design and a length of about 90 seconds, the sweet spot from over 4,500 videos.

You can spot quality before you commission: real examples, reviews (Videodesign: 4.82 out of 5 from over 280 reviews on ProvenExpert), and whether an agency advises you honestly even when the cheapest style is the right one. The simplest test remains: show the video to someone who does not know the topic. If they get it on first viewing, it works. Seeing is believing – examples from every industry are in our explainer video examples.

Because an explainer video only works when it hits the tone of its audience – and that tone is best known from here. Videodesign has produced in Lucerne since 2012, for the whole of Switzerland: over 4,500 videos for companies such as AXA, SBB, the City of Zurich and PostFinance. We voice in German, French and Italian – one production gives you versions for every part of the country, with nothing lost on the way. You feel the proximity in the process: kick-off at your office, at ours in Lucerne or online; your project manager stays the same person from the first call to final sign-off.

And you can rely on what we promise: a reply within 12 hours, a fixed-price quote within 24, production in four to six weeks on a binding schedule – the price in the quote is the price on the invoice. The reviews say it lands: 4.82 out of 5 from over 280 reviews on ProvenExpert. Cheaper is possible abroad or with template tools. But your message is only understood with a video that matches your audience's language, culture and context.
